The cat will return to its chosen party member after combat. The Black Cat Will Run from Combat - If you enter combat while the black cat is with your party, it will flee from the fight in real-time to find safety. They will quickly shoot an arrow into the black cat if given the chance, so be sure to maintain a safe distance from the magisters, especially those along the east side of the prison.
